Winter is upon us in Melbourne and there's nothing better than having a long Friday lunch at a cosy Italian Cafe.  Thirty Eight Chairs in South Yarra, the old Bond St Wine Bar is now transformed into the cutest cafe with literally 38 chairs.  Right around the corner from the famous Cafe E Cucina, the former Manager saw the potential and opened up giving E Cucina some much needed competition.

For a Friday lunch it was busy as you would expect, it was warm and I loved the intimacy of the space.  I got there a little earlier than my clients and was given some complimentary olives and Italian bread which was a nice touch.

We started off with the Pan fried Scallops on chargrilled Mortadella which is an Italian Salami.  There were 4 in a serve, so we each got one and the scallop was translucent, exactly how a scallop should be cooked.  It was decadent and I wish I had the serving all to myself!

I chose to have the Lamb entree special which they kindly made into a Main for me.  It was succulent pieces of lamb fillet with zucchini and eggplant puree.  I wasn't after a heavy meal, so this was perfect and very delicious!

I did have some serious food envy when I saw the Curly Pappadelle with slow cooked duck ragu, porcini and shaved pecorino.  How tasty does it look?

The Char-grilled veal rack with rocket & parmesan was presented simply.

I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch here at 38 Chairs and am definitely going to try the pasta on my next visit here.  It's a nice alternative to Cafe E Cucina if you're wanting to try something new.
